FAQ

Questions? We've got answers.

Do I need an account?
Not for the Daily Case. Today's case is playable straight away with no account, no email address and no card — you open the page and you are already investigating. An account only becomes useful afterwards, if you want your solved cases and streak kept, or if you want the longer 40-minute investigations.
Does the daily case change?
Yes. A new case goes live each day and the previous one is gone. Everyone playing on a given day gets exactly the same murder, the same suspects and the same killer, wherever they are in the world, so you can compare notes with someone else without spoiling different cases. The setting alternates between Blackwood Manor and Murder on the Titanic from one day to the next. If you start a case and have to stop, your progress is kept in your browser until that day is over.
What's the difference between the Daily Case and Premium?
The Daily Case is one short mystery per day: roughly 12 minutes, 2 accusations, no setup and no account. Premium is for people who want more than that — unlimited full-length investigations on a 40 minute clock, with your choice of setting and difficulty, 3 accusations, voice interviews and no ads. Premium does not make the Daily Case better or easier; it simply means you never have to wait until tomorrow.
What kind of game is BACKSTABBERS?
BACKSTABBERS is a text-based AI detective game. You interview suspects, search for clues, and make deductions to solve a murder mystery. Think of it as an interactive novel meets escape room, powered by artificial intelligence.
How long is each game?
The Daily Case runs on a 12 minute clock — short enough for a coffee break. A full-length investigation runs on a 40 minute clock. Either way the clock keeps running once the case begins, so set the time aside before you start.
Which mysteries can I play?
There are two settings. Blackwood Manor is a 1994 country-house murder across ten rooms. Murder on the Titanic puts you aboard the RMS Titanic in 1912, with eleven decks and cabins to search. Both are live. The Daily Case alternates between them automatically; in a full-length investigation you choose which one you want.
Do I need to download anything?
No. BACKSTABBERS runs entirely in your web browser. Works on Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. Desktop or tablet recommended for best experience.
What do I get if I do create an account?
A free account keeps your record of solved cases, and it unlocks 3 full-length 40-minute investigations where you choose the setting and the difficulty. No credit card needed. The Daily Case stays free either way, and playing it never uses up one of those 3.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Cancel anytime from your account settings. You'll keep access until your billing period ends. No questions asked, no hidden fees.
